Submission Guidelines and Contact Information for Manuscripts and Book Reviews

Submission Guidelines

The JAEH practices a double-blind review process. Because submissions are evaluated anonymously, the author’s name should appear only on the title page. Electronic versions of the manuscript should be submitted as Microsoft Word email attachments to jaeh_editor@iehs.org. Articles should ideally not exceed 10,000 words, not including notes, tables, etc. All article submissions should include an abstract no longer than 250 words and a brief author bio. Previously published work or work currently under consideration elsewhere will not be reviewed.

JAEH follows the guidelines of the Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition). JAEH uses endnotes as the method of citation. Manuscripts not submitted in accordance to these standards may not be considered for review.

Once a manuscript is accepted for publication, authors may choose to enhance their work with illustrations. It is the responsibility of the author to obtain authorization from copyrights holders for images and text reprinted in the JAEH. Electronic and print rights are required. All illustrations are reproduced in black-and-white.

The author is required to submit the original permission letters for all copyrighted material used in his/her manuscript. Authors should insert call-outs into the text where the images would appear (for example, ). All figures or illustrations should be submitted as TIFF image files formatted as 300 dpi grayscale and line art should have a resolution of 1200 dpi or better.
